Black Hole

July 6, 2009

10 years ago, after watching a movie that left me in a detached state, I wrote these lyrics out on a napkin. The chord progression was written at the early start of 1999. It’s a kind of chugging cycle. Feels good to play. Except for the bass recorded in 2007, most of the tracks were laid down in 2005. Originally I wanted it in the key of F, but I forgot to capo the guitar on the 1st fret. Background vocals are barely apparent at the -1:20 mark before they crescendo and split into a couple handful of harmonies.

BLACK HOLE

A cold pale-blue empty room
No door or window
I stand alone, my mother remains as a blur
There is no sound
No such thing as sound

In life as a child
Now sit down
Cut out a fake or live image
The black and stars are all that existed
Existed

Look, I’m an actor in the play of someone’s dream
My mobile home and road the stage
A monitored mind
Don’t get communication
What lives in words that we can hear

Here and perceiving a picture on paper set fire by the sun
Or shred and torn by and by the
Larger hand and rid of
Rid of

Pull me like the black hole pulls the planet
