Download Song (Right-click or control-click to save)– recorded 2008 w/ guitar and bass.

Wrote this instrumental on the piano in 2000 for a composition class. Originally, it was an attempt at pandiatonic music, which uses free notes and chords from a regular diatonic scale, without trying to establish one tonality or home key. Revisiting it, I noticed I didn’t follow the assignment. Instead I wrote this short tune starting in C Major / B section in A minor / and back to C Major– all white keys on a piano. Recorded it New Year’s Day 2008.

I really want to do more of this kind of stuff– multi-track bass and guitar that intersect and such. My understanding of traditional counterpoint is lacking and I’d like to get into it again. For now, my approach to counterpoint is simply to treat the melodic lines as Q&A, and try and get the lines to compliment each other.
